Families Forward is a new county program—just for parents who owe child support—offering FREE training for good jobs. This is part of a national study that seeks to find ways to help improve the lives of parents and children.

After you finish training, Families Forward can also help you look for a better job. And if you want help managing your child support payments or financial issues, Families Forward is here to help with that too.

Career Tracks



Heavy Tractor/Truck Driving

Length: CDL A: 5 weeks full time OR 10 weeks part time

              CDL B: 5 weeks full time

Learn skills through classroom and behind-the-wheel training. Earn a class A or B Commercial Driver’s License.

CNC Machinist

Length: 17 weeks full time OR

              22 weeks part time

Learn to set-up and operate a CNC mill and lathe and develop blueprint reading skills.

IT Support

Length: 6-8 weeks part time

Learn about data and information management, develop technology skills, and earn Microsoft Office Suite or CompTIA A+ certifications.

Learn skills in Microsoft Office, computer literacy, communication, and more, and earn Customer Support Specialist certifications.

How can I apply?


1. Call 216-698-2363 or 216-698-3505 or email cuyahoga-families-forward@jfs.ohio.gov to speak with us. We can tell you more about the trainings available and confirm you meet the general requirements. You may be eligible if you:

  • Are 18-64 years old
  • Have a case with an active child support order with the Cuyahoga County Office of Child Support Services
  • Live within Ohio and are able to attend training in Cuyahoga County
  • Can legally work in the U.S.
  • Have an individual annual income less than $30,000
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Are not receiving SSI or SSDI benefits
  • Have a background clear of felonies for violent or sexual crimes
  • Meet all other requirements for specific career tracks (see the links in the section above for more details)

2. Attend your scheduled orientation and registration to meet staff and participate in a basic assessment, interview, and tour. There are orientations every week, but you must schedule your slot beforehand at 216-698-2363 or 216-698-3505.
